This is the lowest rating I ever gave this series and part of me is kind of wanting to give it four-stars out of loyalty to the series as a whole in that I really do enjoy it overall. However, if you've been following this series from the first book like I have, then you would have a better understanding of why I've grown so weary of all of the "soul-mating" in this series.I hate how the Argonauts are these kick-ass warriors with an oath to protect the realms of the living from the forces of the Underworld, but whenever they get around their soulmates they get all goo-goo eyed and can barely function or think straight. Worse still, five books into this series, and the author still insists on forcing all the women mated to the other Argonauts in the previous stories into the current story even when they serve absolutely no purpose in the story whatsoever. All but maybe Isadora, who is the current queen of Argolea, and Callia, who is their on-call doctor, really has a reason to be more integrated in the storyline, but why was it necessary for Skyla to still be a supporting character in the story after Gryphon and Malea fled the colony? Why must the Argonauts and their mates be so joined at the hip?
But even with all of the things that didn't change in this book, I'm glad to say that this is the book where things finally take a pivotal turn.
While a traumatized Gryphon is trying to ignore the darkness in his heart after countless time spent as Atalanta's slave in the Underworld, he decides to escape the colony after he goes into beserk mode in an assault on deamons that went too far, causing him to lash out and physically attack his own brethren. Knowing himself to be a liability to his own brotherhood, he renounces his ties as an Argonaut. At the precise moment he was to make his escape, Malea, finally decides to make hers as well.
The daughter of Zeus and Persephone, she has ties to both Olympus and the Underworld, thus she is stuck between the realms, cursed to never belong to one world or the other. Unfortunately for her, though, her escape is interrupted by the new rogue Argonaut, who kidnaps her because he knows she knows a way out from the colony. But it isn't long before he realizes that's not the only reason he needs her. He needs her to calm Atalanta's call-to-arms (or her bedside) and whenever she's around, he discovers, suddenly the voices go away. Hmm, I wonder why...
From there the two go on the run together and the story is exactly what you'd expect after having read the others. We have to read scene after scene of denials of their attraction to one another while all the while cursing the gods for every look or sigh they give one another that betrays their attraction to the other until the inevitable turning point where Gryphon and Malea finally give into their ethereal lust for one another all in the midst of trying to dodge both the Argonauts, who think Gryphon has taken Malea against her will (which, technically, at first he had), and the deamons, who would bring him back to Atalanta.
Honestly, the side story carried the book for me and that's kind of bad because the side story wasn't terribly interesting by itself, but it did introduce a mysterious character who we already know will be Titus' soulmate in the next book in the Eternal Guardian series. I was just so tired of listening to descriptions of Gryphon and Malea's attraction to one another that at times I just wanted to skip ahead to the side story again where everyone was still looking for leads on Gryphon and Malea's whereabouts. I also felt like the author was just trying to use sex to carry the main storyline because at every turn sex was being used to bridge one scene of the story to another. As beautiful and erotic as the scenes were, they got repetitive in a quick fast hurry and I just felt like screaming, "Okay, can we get back to the story please!"
The author throws in a little bit of a betrayal at the end of the story that quickly becomes resolved with pathetic ease with the only true satisfaction coming from the results of a predictable showdown that was long in coming. It ended the way you expected it to, again, if you read any of the other books in this series.
Despite the lukewarm rating, I do like this series and did like this book. It might not have had as much of the action as the ones before it, but it has remained consistent with their overall war with the minions of the Underworld. For me, this series has always been about the Greek mythology associated with it and not so much the love story. I love the modern spin on the Greek gods and their civilizations. For that reason, I will see this series to the end.

Enslaved Eternal Guardians Elisabeth Naughton 9781402262159 Books Reviews
Gryphon was wronged! He was blasted by a warlock and then his soul was enslaved for eternal torment in Hell with Hades and it was not supposed to be for this Eternal Guardian. The Argonauts are the Eternal Guardians of Earth and Argolea protecting the other worlders and humans alike and this life of service and dedication are to bring them to the Isle of the Blessed upon their death. So, when Gryphon ends with the fate, his half brother Orpheus and his new partner Skyla rescue his soul and return it to his body with the help of his brotherhood and The Fates.(see Enraptured, book 4 in the series) However, returning his tormented soul to his body was only part of the battle and his battle must be fought now by him and with the help of Zeus and Persephone's exiled daughter, Malea his is able to banish the torment of the voices in his head long enough to help Malea find her own future too!
These can be stand alone novels, but as a fan of this genre, you will have a much more enriching experience if you read each one, the relationships and personalities, events build upon one another in each novel.
Malea has been in the human realm for nearly 3000 years, and it takes the warrior Gryphon thinks he lost to the humiliation of what he did to survive Hell to help her find her fight and battle for her own future like only a warrior can do. This is the story of fighting a battle for your own future, while you can hardly even dream that there is one for you.

Gryphon's story was great! Completely unexpected that his soulmate would be Maela but it worked out. I am so amazed at how Elisabeth Naughton weaves her stories together! This book ties in all the books and then some.
My favorite part of the story was Maela's relationship with Gryphon. This is supposed to be "Gryphon's story" but I was more drawn to Maela than to Gryohon. Gryphon was fighting the pull of Atalanta in his head and he was trying to overcome it; that was his story in the book. On the other hand was Maela, who has lived for thousands of years wandering the earth because she didn't belong anywhere. As she goes on her 'adventure' with Gryphon, she starts to realize what kind of woman she is. She sees traits in herself that she never realized was there. She becomes the person she was destined to be… it just took a lot of love and life threatening situations for her to get there. It was great to see her grow in this story. I didn't like her at all in the previous book but this one was great because I fully understand her and her actions on the previous book.
I'd recommend this story to anyone that loves paranormal romances. I would start from the beginning of the series because there are lots of characters that go in and out of all the books.
